The Space Giants
Date added: 22nd April 2006 Updated: 25th March 2008
There was a very mysterious show I watched when I was 6 yrs old or so....which was about 1981. It involved a family of what I thought were robot rockets and they were always in retreat from this strange evil mongoloid. He would have this strange shadow minions that would chase after people. The Robots Rockets would fly off occasionally. I am dying to find out.

Beasts - Baby
Date added: 8th December 2007 Updated: 16th December 2007
can anyone help me
in the early to mid nineteen seventies i was spell bound to watch possibly a granada or a bbc north broadcast of a story telling the tale of a newly wed professional couple who had bought this really old cottage in the countryside - they had to widen the gate to get stuff through it so they knocked down a part of the old garden wall to find lying in the rubble the shrouded mummified body of a human baby - they took the body into the house and from then on all sorts of scary stuff started to carry on - after a few days the wife heard a noise from down stairs at the dead of night and went to investigate to find the heavily shrouded growling mother of the child cradling her baby and swaying to and fro in their own rocking  chair - it scared the living daylights out of me and i've been searching for it ever since - if you can help me out i would be very grateful

Hello,

I am trying to track down a ghost story (probably shown on  BBC Two) from the 70s (or maybe 80s) concerning a painting which shows people recoiling from an unseen presence. The story was woven around the painting - but that's all I remember! Grateful for any ideas.

Found it - it was called Schalken The Painter.

The Clifton House Mystery
Date added: 20th June 2007 Updated: 14th August 2007
Hi there,

I wonder if you can help me.

I remember watching a programme when I was little, it was either in the late 70's or early 80's and all I can recall is there were some well to do children in a house and the eldest girl is given a little music box but every time she opens it and the tune starts to play a soldier from a picture on the wall comes to life and strange things start happening.

I remember in one scene the kids are screaming because blood is dripping down from the ceiling!  I remember that at the end something good happens (I cant remember what) I think it was to do with the soldier in the picture as he starts to fade away out of the painting.

It really terrified me at the time and I would love to know if anyone remembers it and if so, what it was called.

Many thanks for your help

Vicky

The Last Train
Date added: 27th May 2007 Updated: 2nd June 2007
Dear sir/madam
I'm trying to find a TV show shown in the late 1990's set and made in England
its basically about a group of post nuclear survivors searching for the
truth. All i can remember is that at the beginning its present day. I
remember a character is on the tube and its frozen in time. It was on ITV
during the week night. It was a mini series.

Any ideas what it is and where i can buy it would be helpful
Many thanks
Donna Barlow
I am trying to find out the name of a series i saw possibly mid 90s, not overly sure.
It started of with the main characters all getting on a train, as well as a scientist. As they are travelling along they go into a tunnel, whilst they are in there a meteor hits earth killing most of the earths population. The people in the train are frozen by whatever the scientist was carrying with him for twenty or so years. When they finally awaken they find the world repairing itself, cities overgrown  with plant life and wild animals roaming around.

So do you have any clue what this programme was called or where i might get it?

Your hopefully
Jamie Hutchinson

Hi,

I’m looking for a children’s program of the mid to late seventies (I think), and it might even have been called ‘Time Warp’. It was about children that went to a field and went through this invisible force field, and ended up in a jungle or forest. It could only have been on BBC or ITV. Does anyone know this?

The Lost Islands
Date added: 15th March 2007 Updated: 17th May 2007
Hi I am looking for info on a TV series in 1976-77 with a theme tune the lost island . It was about a group of kids travelling o a sailing ship and they found a lost island after they had been caught in a storm at sea .I think there were only a few episodes.

Response

The Lost Islands was made in Australia, and shown in Britain on ITV in 1976/7.  Two series were made, 13 episodes in each.  Shown only once here, it was a major hit on French television where it was often repeated.  The entire series was released on DVD, Region 2, in France 2 years ago.   Amazon.fr   All episodes are available with either original English soundtrack or option French dub.  I bought it 2 years ago and my 10 year old daughter loves it – so much better than the drivel that makes up childrens ITV programming today.

The Twilight Zone
Date added: 12th March 2006 Updated: 19th January 2007

Hello,

I am looking for an old twilight zone episode (or one of those other shows) about not being able to find items that you had a minute ago.  The story shows a group of men (dressed in blue?) that build each new “minute”.  Sometimes they forget to put an item in the next minute and therefore you can’t find it.  When the “men” find the item and replace it in the next minute, you find your item.

I have to find a copy of this.

Thanks.

Laura Kies

Hi,
I am looking for an episode, of course.
The show is about "blue men" behind an "invisible line" that "makes" time change, and how the people in everyday time don't know the blue men are there. The total environment was like the 60's, sterile, clean, June Cleaver like. Except for one time, when the blue men were spotted by the everyday people, specifically when they saw the blue men change the location of a drink glass due to time, or the location of the clock time due to time.  (and no, I am a normal person!) I saw the show on TV, in the 80's(?), I thought on Amazing Stories, or maybe Twilight Zone? But I can't seem to find the episode, it was only a half hour show, to my thinking.

Any help would be wonderful!

Thanks,
Sylvie

Response

I know exactly what you're talking about, but I too can't remember what it was called.  This guy suddenly wakes up one morning and finds a bunch of guys all over his house dressed in blue, carrying blue tools and moving things.  He finds out that he has stumbled into an alternate universe where all this work goes into making every second of our lives.  He befriends one of the blue people, who tell him that sometimes the blue people make a mistake, and that is why we sometimes can't find that set of keys that we're sure we left on the kitchen counter!  Eventually he makes his way back to his regular universe, and I seem to remember him being on the street but he notices a little blue hammer left on the sidewalk.  I think this was part of the same series where another episode that was absolutely stunning, involved a hapless guy where the english language around him is slowly changing into a language that uses english words but substituting totally nonsensical words for what used to be the right word.  For example when he has become totally lost and can't understand his wife or kids anymore, one of his kids gets hurt and he has to go to the hospital, and instead of the word Hospital on the building, it says something like "Elephant".  Bewildered, he goes home and picks up his kid's grade one reader and begins to learn the language all over again.  It's a stunning show.  Anyone who knows the series please let us know!

This was an episode of the newer Twilight Zones made in the 1980's. All the series are available on DVD in box sets.

name was Miss Jones.

Response
Now this sounds very much like the Nigel Kneale series Kinvig. Which was only shown once in the UK back in 1981. Although the main female characters name was Miss Griffin the rest of the description does seem to fit in with the show. Kinvig is due to be released on DVD by Network at the end of June
2006.

Keep it in the Family
Date added: 24th February 2006 Updated: 25th February 2006

Hi,

I am looking for the title of a TV programme on in the 70s I think.  It was sort of a family comedy and the dad was a cartoonist. He used to sit in front of his big drawing board and talk to a hand puppet which was a lion. I would be thrilled if anyone know the name of the series and the name of the guy that played the cartoonist. My friends and I are all drawing blanks and its driving us mad!

Hi,
I am trying to find out the name of a children's drama which I think was shown in the 90's.
Basically these children find a machine gun from a downed plane during WW2 and use it to shoot at other German planes this is the only thing I can remember from it I don't even remember how many episodes there were or the rest of the story, pretty sure they shoot down a plane but that's all I remember. I just want to know the name of the series and then I can take it from there I would be grateful for anyone's help.
Response: Your programme was called The Machine Gunners, set in the north east.  I can't remember much about it though but I know I loved it!

Stigma

Hi

I've been trying to find out more about a television play, a single episode, which I believe must have been aired in the early to mid seventies. My memory of it has been triggered by the wonderful MR James ghost stories being broadcast again this week.

The one I would like to know about was a contemporary ghost story and involved a young couple digging something up in their garden which was linked to witchcraft. A scene that I remember most vividly was that the wife (I think this was the case rather, than the husband) developed a wound in her side that appeared spontaneously and would not stop bleeding. In addition, there was a chilling scene where the husband enters the kitchen and as the neon light flickers on, a knife comes to rest on a chopping board - something has been inexplicably using it. There was also an instance of groundbreaking "daylight horror" where the husband sees terrifying wooden effigies appear in the garden, and I think also wakes to see one hovering above him in the bed. My recollection is that the wife bleeds to death in the end, the inference being that the witch killed in the garden also died in the same way.

I would be very grateful if anyone out there can recall any details about this play.

Kind regards

Roderick Gordon

Smoggies!

There was a cartoon in the ‘90s, I can’t remember what it’s called.  There were little people who lived on an island, which had a funfair etc – and out at sea there was an old, ugly woman living in a boat with two blokes – her ‘henchmen’.  The boat was always surrounded by loads of pollution and rubbish.  The lady thought the cure for eternal youth was on the island or the sea around the island.  Can anyone else remember the name or anything from this cartoon?

thanks
